Dead stars
Dead stars is short story written by Paz Marquez Benitez, written in 1925. The story is all about Alfredo Salazar. He is confused in what he should follow his heart or follow what is right. He is the great love of Esperanza. They had been for many years and destined to get married. Their relationship is full of love and happiness, but like other relationship their feelings for each other were not the same, as like from the beginning. Esperanza was a beautiful woman. After four years of their relationship, Alfredo met Julia Salas their neighbor's sister-in-law. Alfredo getting to fall in love with the girl because of their friendship that was made. They found good company between each other, it became a habit to visit Julia Salas. Julia is planning to leave and go back home. Alfredo Salazar became decided if who will he choice Julia or Esperanza.
The story is written in third person omniscient point of view beacause the narrator only knows the feeling and thoughts of the characters. The author became the narrator which she made us know only what she allow us only to know.
In the story, traditional gender role was shared by the author.Esperanza is a typical women,waiting for the decisions of Alfredo and didn't no that her man is being in love with Julia Salas. It just justifies how woman in that decades were to dependent on the decision of a man. Alfredo shown weaknesses, which a man shouldn't show to anyone.
The story has a good plotline, it showed to us how it is hard to fall in love with the two person in the same time. It displayed the struggle of Alfredo in choosing the right girl for her. Alfredo teached me to make a wise decision in life, because what Alfredo did was a good decision in which he benefited along the way. The story teaches me to choose mind over heart. Overall this is a good story in which it left a history and a lot of lessons that we may use someday.
